Selling Motorcycle on eBay Guide - Choose Payment Options for Your Motorcycle
At the time of working on your motorcycle listing, you'll have to choose how you would prefer the buyer would pay you for the motorcycle and what options you want the buyer to have with this. In addition, you may want to request a deposit to be paid within some period of time from the end of the auction.
Most eBay transactions are paid for using Paypal (see the note below). Most large money transactions such as cars, motorcycles, expensive paintings, etc are paid for using different types of payments.
What most motorcycle and car sellers do is they request a deposit to be paid via Paypal within 1 to 3 days from the end of the auction. The deposit amount usually depends on the total amount they're expecting to sell their item for. For example, for an $8,000 worth motorcycle you could request a $500 to $1000 deposit. Of course, if you motorcycle is only worth $1,000 a deposit may not be needed at all. The deposit shows you that your buyer is serious about the purchase.
You can request the remaining balance to be paid to you in the form of a certified cashiers check or cash. Depending on the balance, you may not want to handle large amount of cash. Other types of payment sellers prefer are escrow service or wire transfer. eBay Motor's finance partner, Escrow.com, will hold the buyer's payment and send it to you only after both parties are fully satisfied with the transaction.
Mention about the deposit (if any) and your payment preferences in the listing description.
Paypal Note:
If you are new to eBay, register for a Paypal account. Paypal gives buyers ability to use their bank or credit card to pay for an item even if the seller does not have ability to accept credit card payments directly. Also, buyer's bank account or credit card number is not forwarded to the seller, which better protects buyer's financial information. You can sign up for a PayPal account for free and transfer money between Paypal and your bank account for free, but there are charges for accepting Paypal payments and a limit of how many Paypal transactions you can have per year if you have a personal account. You can check their website to find out more information about their process, registration and fees.
